Pour Moi wins the Derby for France

They say the young are as confident as they have ever been, but surely even teenage superstar Mickael Barzelona was overly-confident on his mount Pour Moi as he passed the Derby finishing line.

Having come from last to first and 6th place one-furlong out, Barzelona seemed to be celebrating before the line as he passed his rivals at the post. This confident of celebrations luckily produced the right result for Barzelona in the end, but surely too close for comfort for most. The stewards even warned the teen sensation after the Derby about his 'premature' celebrations.

Trainer Andre Fabre has been saying for weeks that this was his best chance of a Derby success and his confidence was obviously proved right here. Treasure Beach and the favourite Carlton House were back in second and third respectively, with the Queen (owner of the third) looking less than impressed as the result was announced. This looked the ideal opportunity for the monarch to have her first Derby success, but it was not meant to be as the strong finishing Pour Moi prevailed.

The winner here looks to be given a break now and then will head to the Arc, where his trainer Fabre has an impressive record.
